Peres Insists Jerusalem's Jewish Sites Part of Israel

President Shimon Peres toured Tzfat Wednesday and vowed that the Jewish holy sites in Jerusalem must remain under our control." Concerning a division of the capital, he said that "currently we all want a unified Jerusalem."

However, he clouded his position by stating, "The only thing the State of Israel must ensure is a Jewish majority in Jerusalem." Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said in the Knesset this week, "Was it necessary to annex the Shuafat refugee camp, al-Sawahra, Walajeh and other villages and state that this is also Jerusalem?" All three neighborhoods are on the outskirts of Jerusalem and are outside the separate barrier.
