PM: Knesset OK Not Needed for PA-Israel Declaration

(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Ehud Olmert informed cabinet ministers Sunday that he has the authority to reach a joint declaration with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas without the approval of the Knesset, which begins its winter session on Monday.
The prime minister said the joint declaration, which he hopes to complete with the PA chairman prior to the U.S.-sponsored Mideast summit scheduled for November 26 in Annapolis, Maryland, would be another step leading to direct negotiations.
