Sarkozy: My Reputation as Friend of Israel Is True

"I have the reputation of being a friend of Israel, and it's true. I will never compromise on Israel's security," said new French Prime Minister Nicholas Sarkozy. Despite that, he said, the many Arab leaders who have visited him since his election know they can count on his friendship. He also noted that France has a history of close ties with the Arab world. 

Sarkozy is the grandson of a Greek Jew but was baptized a Roman Catholic. His wife's father was also Jewish.
