The Islamic fundamentalist regime of Iran is training hundreds of Hamas terrorists to fight Israel, says IDF deputy chief of staff Moshe Kaplinsky. Meanwhile, in Gaza, Hamas is building an army modeled after that of the Hizbullah in southern Lebanon. Kaplinsky made the comments during an interview 10 days ago, but they were embargoed at the request of the IDF.
Hamas, says Kaplinsky, is constructing positions and fortifications, building tunnels to smuggle in terrorists, explosives, anti-tank weapons and more sophisticated rockets through Egypt. Kaplinsky noted that Hamas now possesses improved antitank missiles and mortars as well as Katyusha rockets with a range of more than 10 miles, which the terrorist organization is keeping in reserve.
Hamas took over total control of Gaza after a civil war with the rival Fatah terror group that ended in June 2007.
