MK Aryeh Eldad (NU/NRP) said Saturday night that Likud head Binyamin Netanyahu should give the public a clear explanation of his policy. Specifically, Eldad said, Netanyahu must clearly state whether or not he supports the creation of a new Arab state in Judea and Samaria, to be controlled by the Palestinian Authority. “Whoever presents himself as the head of the national camp... should clearly state his plans,” Eldad said.
Netanyahu met last week with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul-Gheit. While Netanyahu told Israelis that he expressed his opposition to the 2002 Saudi Peace Initiative during the meeting, Aboul-Gheit told Egyptian paper Al Ahram that Netanyahu asked for clarification on several points, but did not object to the plan.
