Two Middle Eastern-looking men brutally attacked a young Jewish woman, 22-year-old Audrey Brachelle, last Thursday in the French city of Marseilles.

The two men grabbed her cell phone but the attack became an anti-Semitic assault when they noticed the golden “Chai” (“life,” in Hebrew) locket on a necklace she wore.

The attackers hit her in the head, pulled out a knife, slashed her shirt, cut off some of her hair and drew a swastika on her bare chest and then ran.

France is home to a large community of Arab immigrants and the issue of violence and anti-Semitic crimes perpetrated by that population has become a sensitive issue in the presidential elections slated for May 6.
