No Dithering on 60 Minutes for Navy Seal bin Laden Hit

Navy Seal Mark Owen made us proud a second time. First, when he and his fellow Navy Seals actually assassinated Osama bin Laden…and then on 60 Minutes when he told us how it was done. He was part of the team that finished off bin Laden. His book “No Easy Day” tells the entire story and it was timed for September 11, though it’s been riding at Number One for several weeks now on Amazon.

In disguise for his personal safety – his real name and his face – he gave us a first-hand, on-the-spot account of how the mission was accomplished, and how it nearly came undone, but that through training and professionalism and through a can-do spirit that we in the USA still admire and possess, at least within our Armed Forces, we got the s.o.b.

Owen spoke matter-of-factly and modestly but for the rest of us, these guys are heroes. They make us all stand taller.

Briefly, 60 Minutes showed images of how Americans took to the news. We held rallies of triumph on Times Square and elsewhere we gathered in jubilation.  Throughout the land ball games were stopped to cheer “U.S.A”…”U.S.A.” That brute had murdered 3,000 of our people and going beyond a decade, he had escaped recompense.  Finally, then, we got our man, we got our justice, and we celebrated.

We all agreed that murderers, terrorists, must pay. There was no dithering about this…there were no liberals in our foxholes. Not for this!

World leaders thanked us for a job well done and newspapers east and west, north and south, gave thanks. Again, no liberals to be found…no dithering.

So that was Osama bin Laden. What about Yasser Arafat?

There are no exact figures on how many Jews he murdered. Some estimates place the number at 10,000. Yes, 10,000 Israelis...murdered by Yasser Arafat.

No units of the IDF were sent in to kill him at the height of his intifadas...those days when cars, buses, cafes, schools, college dormitories, people driving, people walking, children playing – all were being slaughtered. This was called “the peace process” and as the peace process moved along, so did the killings. (then Prime Minister Rabin offered the victims as “sacrifices for peace.”)

The United States and the “world community” told Israel to “keep talking” for “the sake of peace,” but finally Israel had had enough. What to do?

Send in the Israeli version of the Navy Seals? There’s plenty of that in the IDF. No, Plan B went into effect. Arafat was confined to his quarters in Ramallah…something like House Arrest, but from there Arafat ordered even more killings.

Even this – the House Arrest –was too much for the “world community.”  Fox News’  Geraldo Rivera complained about the inconvenient roadblocks to Arafat’s compound…and when Arafat took sick, the BBC’s Barbara Plett cried… heartbroken for this loss when Arafat was hoisted onto a plane from Ramallah to France, to recover or to die.

Arafat died in his slippers and now the rest of the world joined Barbara Plett in shedding rivers of tears.Kofi Annan lowered UN flags to half staff. Nelson Mandela grew positively eloquent: “Yasser Arafat was one of the outstanding freedom fighters of his generation…We honor his memory today.”

More honors poured in…even Tony Blair and Jacques Chirac paid tribute to the man who murdered 10,000 Israelis and counting.  Even George W. Bush offered condolences.

The entire world wept for this man who died leaving his widow as rich as the Queen of England…more than one billion dollars pocketed from the “world community.”

Now Suha wants to know if her beloved husband, the Nobel Laureate for “peace,” was poisoned. If so, not by Israel. Not a chance.

For Israel is held to a higher standard. No, take that back!

Israel is held to a double standard. Isn’t it obvious?
