Opposition leader MK Yair Lapid spoke on Sunday in the Knesset plenum and blasted the government over its attempt to pass the revised budget for 2023.
"You keep telling us, 'You don't do politics during wartime.' Is there more politics during wartime than what you are doing here today? Billions are handed out. Money to parties, money for interests, money to vote-buyers, money to political extortion."
"I saw the Prime Minister's press conference yesterday. One question was missing: How do you sleep at night? On your watch, 1,200 were murdered, hundreds were kidnapped, entire towns were burned," Lapid said.
"Instead of putting down the keys, asking for forgiveness from the people of Israel and walking away - you bring this budget? Hiding behind the holy people of ZAKA to distribute money to your nightmare coalition. I'm in favor of money for ZAKA, I'm in favor of money for United Hatzalah. What does this have to do with the billions you are handing out to one another?" he added.
"The people of Israel are at war. It is not over. You cannot vote for billions in coalition funds during a war. I call on all members of the coalition who still have a shred of conscience left in their hearts to vote against this budget," concluded Lapid.
Those who are opposed to the updated budget, which is adjusted for the war, argue that it diverts only a portion of the coalition funds for the benefit of the war.
