I recently had the privilege of meeting with Maurizio Molinari, the director of La Repubblica, one of the largest Italian newspapers. It was a very special meeting for me as I got to know a person who is not only a successful journalist but also a Jewish individual in a predominantly Catholic country.

We talked about many things, including his experience in the field of journalism and his views on the current state of the media industry. I was impressed by his passion for his work and his dedication to delivering unbiased news to the public.

During our meeting, Maurizio Molinari and I discussed the complex and ongoing situation in the Middle East, including the current war in Israel and the future of the Gaza Strip. Molinari shared his views on the matter, which were both enlightening and reassuring.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Molinari maintained a calm and wise tone throughout our conversation. He stressed the importance of not living in fear and reassured me that Israel is, in fact, a safe place to be. He explained that when you are close to the source of chaos, it is often the safest place to be and that it is actually the rest of Europe that is more in danger now.

We also discussed the future of Israel after the war and what Bibi Netanyahu might do next. Molinari shared his thoughts on the matter, which were insightful and thought-provoking. He emphasized the importance of leadership and the need for strong, wise leaders during times of crisis.
On 23 April 2020, Molinari was appointed director of the newspaper La Repubblica by the board of directors of the GEDI publishing group, replacing Carlo Verdelli.

In July 2021, he was awarded the Spadolini Cultura Politica prize awarded by the Giovanni Spadolini Foundation, while in September 2021, he won the Testimoni della Storia (Witnesses of history) prize on the occasion of the journalism festival in Trieste.

Overall, our discussion was both informative and reassuring. I was impressed by Molinari's calm demeanor and his wisdom in the face of such a complex and troubling situation. It was a privilege to hear his thoughts and insights, and I look forward to continuing the conversation in the future.
