The Supreme Court rejected the petition of the Movement for the Quality of Government, which asked the court to issue conscription orders for haredi youth following the expiration of the conscription law.

The Supreme Court said in the reasons for the postponement that it is understandable that those involved in the issue are frustrated and even feel powerless due to the fact that the issue has not reached a solution. At the same time, the Supreme Court said that this is not sufficient to justify submitting a petition calling for a general mobilization within a few days after the relevant legal situation has changed.

Following the expiration of the law last week, the government approved the decision that will allow Defense Minister Yoav Galant to order the army not to enforce conscription of haredi youth, pending the approval of government legislation on the subject that will reach the Knesset in the winter session.

The chairman of the Yisrael Beyteinu party, MK Avigdor Lieberman, wrote on his Twitter account: "The decision approved by the government a short time ago is another stop on the way to the evasion law instead of a conscription law for all. Without full equality in the burden both in the economy and in security, we will not have a country."

The emerging outline for the new conscription law includes lowering the exemption age for haredim to 23 so that they can enter the workforce sooner. The plan also includes a change in the length of service of IDF soldiers so that soldiers in frontline and administrative positions will be released earlier, and those who serve in essential positions will serve a longer period of time and in the last months of their service will earn about 6,000 NIS.
