Reserve soldiers from the "Ahim Laneshek" (Brothers in Arms) organization on Tuesday morning arrived outside the home of Justice Minister Yariv Levin (Likud) to protest the proposed judicial reform.
According to Israel Hayom, the protesters - who the organization said number about a thousand while other estimates were much lower - arrived with barbed wire and signs reading, "Dictatorship hot dog, from the Levin deli," and "Yariv mar shel Yisrael," which translates literally to, "The bitter opponent of Israel."
Levin's first name, Yariv, also means "opponent" or "rival" in Hebrew.
Police officers arrived to disperse the protest, which included the burning of tires by protesters. Six protesters were arrested, including the organization's leader, Eitan Herzl. Several of the protesters were injured due to the use of tear gas on the part of the police.
At the same time, the protesters stormed the police vehicle and gathered around it in a fashion which did not allow the police to leave the street with those who were arrested.
According to the protesters, Levin is acting as the real prime minister in practice, and leading the country to destruction in an undemocratic fashion.
"Today it is already clear to everyone who really rules this country and is leading it to destruction," Ahim Laneshek said. "Levin may have managed to kidnap the country, but we will release it from his hands. In the coming weeks, the battle for the country's character will increase, and the nation of Israel will be required to use all its strength and join the efforts to protect the democracy.
Israel Police responded: "Police have now arrested a number of individuals suspected of disrupting the public order in the city of Modi'in, after they burned a tire in the heart of a residential neighborhood while attempting to block a traffic artery."
