The Military Advocate General on Monday filed a serious indictment against a soldier with the rank of sergeant for assault, abuse under aggravated circumstances and threats against a Palestinian Arab.

In addition, the defendant was charged with offenses of abuse of official power, exceeding authority to the point of endangering life or health, several offenses of obstruction of justice, and inappropriate behavior.

Upon filing the indictment, the Military Advocate General asked the military court to order the arrest of the accused until the conclusion of the legal proceedings in his case.

According to the indictment, "During a patrol mission, the accused, and three other soldiers, loaded the victim into a military jeep, and drove with him to an isolated place. During and after the trip, the victim of was subjected to violence, including violence with weapons, and threats were made to him, including threats with weapons. Finally, the soldiers left the victim in the place to which he was taken, while he was suffering from various pains and injuries to his body."

The indictment further noted that "after the incident, the accused and the rest of the soldiers hid the details of the case from their commanders, in an attempt to prevent the opening of an investigation by the Military Police, and coordinated their versions with the aim of disrupting the investigation."

In the case of the other three soldiers, the Military Advocate General stated its intention to file charges against them. In accordance with the request of the attorney of the suspects, a hearing will be held before officials of the Military Advocate General, before the wording of the indictments is decided upon. At this point, the military court extended the detention of two of the soldiers.In relation to the third soldier, in accordance with the request of the prosecution, it was decided that he will continue to stay under conditions of an open detention in his unit.
