A planned terrorist shooting attack in the Temple Mount area has been foiled, it was cleared for publication this morning (Sunday).

Shin Bet and police forces uncovered the plot by a Hamas terrorist to shoot at a bus carrying police officers to the Temple Mount area.

In the last month, the Shin Bet and the Jerusalem District Court conducted an investigation of Omar Abedin, a 21-year-old resident of Jerusalem, who was suspected of conspiring to carry out terrorist activities.

As part of the investigation by the Shin Bet and the police, it was revealed that Omar belongs to the terrorist organization Hamas and that he took part in Hamas activities within the Hamas-identified student cell at Birzeit University.

In addition, it was revealed that a few months ago he started communicating via Facebook with a terrorist operative from Lebanon. The two later switched to communicating on Telegram.

At a certain stage, the terrorist was asked to carry out a shooting or bombing attack. He was to receive financial assistance for this purpose through other terrorists living in the Palestinian Authority.

The terrorist confessed that he agreed to the request and planned to carry out a shooting attack on a bus carrying police officers in the Temple Mount area.

The Jerusalem District Attorney's Office will file an indictment against him in the coming days.
