Terrorists in the Gaza Strip fired a rocket at Israel Wednesday afternoon.
The rocket activated the red alert siren in Sderot, Ibim, and Nir. The rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system.
Residents reported hearing explosions following the alarm. A 50-year-old woman slipped and was lightly injured while attempting to flee to a bomb shelter in Sderot. Magen Adom Adom personnel treated her and evacuated her to the hospital.
The red alert siren was activated in Sderot during a memorial to the late Ella Abukasis, who was killed in a Qassam rocket attack 18 years ago.
Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi was in attendance at the ceremony, as was Rabbi Yaakov Israel Ifargan, who is known as the 'X-Ray.'
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said in response to the rocket launch from Gaza: "The shooting from Gaza will not stop me from continuing to work to abolish the 'summer camp' conditions enjoyed by murderous terrorists. I give my backing to the Prison Services to enter the wings and restore order. I asked for an urgent cabinet meeting this evening to examine ways of responding to the launch of the missiles from Gaza."
