The Military Prosecution filed severe indictments against two soldiers for throwing an improvised explosive at a Palestinian Arab house in the area of the “Etzion” Brigade. The soldiers were charged with weapons production, aggravated intentional assault, intentional harm to property and impeaching the investigation. The accused soldiers were arrested by the Military Police. Upon filing the indictment, the Military Prosecution requested that the Military Court order the soldiers' detention until the end of the legal proceedings in their case. At this stage, with the consent of the defense, the detention of the two defendants was extended until January 19, 2023. On that date, a hearing on the prosecution's request is expected to take place.
According to the indictments that were filed, the defendants and an additional soldier assembled an improvised explosive and threw it into a crowded house in Al Fureidis. The act was committed with the intent of starting a fire in the home as a form of revenge for the kidnapping of the body of a young Israeli in Jenin. The defendants also threw stones at the same house several days prior, on the day following the kidnapping of the body. An indictment in the case of the third soldier will be filed in the coming days.
At this stage, in accordance with the decision of the Military Court, the identifying details of the soldiers are prohibited from publication.
