The Rakavlit cable cars, which operate in Haifa, suspended operations on Monday evening following a power outage caused by the stormy weather.
About 30 passengers were stuck in the cable cars midair as a result of the power outage, before being rescued by fire and rescue services and Magen David Adom teams who were called to the scene. The lights and the intercom in the cable cars continued to work despite the power outage.
Cable Express is expected to remain inactive until Tuesday morning when the electricity will be restored. There were no injuries and there was no danger to the passengers.
The Israel Electric Corporation stated that "due to the stormy weather, which was accompanied by strong gusts of wind, wires were snapped in a high voltage line that also supplies electricity to the cable cars. IEC teams repaired the damage in about half an hour and restored the electricity supply."
