It’s hard to imagine the feelings that must have flooded through Hadassah Shapira's frail body as she was wheeled onto an El Al flight just four weeks ago. This was going to be no ordinary flight...
It would likely be the last one of her life.
One year ago, Hadassah was diagnosed with cancer, and the young mother-of-nine made the tearful goodbyes to her family and flew overseas to receive treatment. The Shapiras prayed and prayed and had high hopes for recovery, but several weeks ago, the doctors gave her unthinkable news-- After a year of fighting for her life, they predicted that Hadassah only had days left. The Shapiras booked a flight for a few more precious days with their mother….But sadly, it was not meant to be.
On the flight, Hadassah fell into a coma, and when the plane landed, she never woke up.
Rabbi Shapira and nine little children are reeling from the unfathomable pain of their great loss. Heartbreaking footage from the funeral reveals a tiny Yosef Sender Shapira, who just learned to read, reading the blessing “Baruch Dayan Haemet” at his mother’s funeral, as the gut-wrenching sound of the little Shapira girls’ sobbing can be overheard in the background.
The Shapiras are now left with insufficient means to pay basic bills. The family has started a crowdfunding page to help the Shapira kids regain some semblance of normalcy in their lives. Financial help is badly needed.
