The Prime Minister's Office has confirmed that Israel and Lebanon have reached an agreement settling the maritime dispute.

Prime Minister Yair Lapid said: “This is an historic achievement that will strengthen Israel’s security, inject billions into Israel’s economy, and ensure the stability of our northern border.”

According to the announcement, the draft agreement meets all the security and economic principles laid out by Israel.

Lapid will convene the Security Cabinet on Wednesday, followed by a special meeting of the government.

A few days ago, Lapid presented the Security Cabinet with the fundamentals of the deal acceptable to Israel, and rejected Lebanese requests for changes.

Over the weekend and the holiday, there was intensive dialogue through the American mediator Amos Hochstein between Lebanon and the Israeli negotiating team led by National Security Council head Dr. Eyal Hulata, Director-General of the Energy Ministry Lior Schillat, and Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alon Ushpiz.

In the last few hours, Israel received a draft agreement that, according to Israeli officials, meets all of its security, economic, and legal demands as set out by Prime Minister Yair Lapid.

Lapid has instructed Cabinet Secretary Shalom Shlomo to convene a Security Cabinet meeting followed by a special government meeting at which the agreement will come before the government for approval, before it is presented to the Knesset.
