Yesterday, in the wake of a foiled Hezbollah drone attack on the Karish gas field last week, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan sent an urgent letter to the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General demanding that the international community condemn Hezbollah’s actions, which blatantly violate Security Council resolutions.

In the letter, Ambassador Erdan wrote, “These UAV's were launched by Hezbollah from Lebanese territory to the gas rig located in the Karish natural gas field, a critical civilian energy facility, in a deliberate attempt to threaten Israel and gather intelligence. This is a dangerous hostile act, and serves as yet another provocation by Hezbollah that must be strongly condemned by the international community.

He added, “Israel holds the Government of Lebanon responsible for all hostilities emanating from Lebanese territory and demands that Lebanon fulfill its duties to prevent all hostile activity from its territory...While Israel does not wish for the escalation of the situation, it will not accept any violation of its sovereign rights and security, and will take all necessary steps to protect its civilian energy infrastructure.”

Two weeks ago, IDF detection systems revealed a UAV moving from Lebanon towards Israel's economic waters. IDF forces downed the craft from a distance, and there was no harm or threat to the maritime border. According to the IDF, the UAV belonged to the Hezbollah terror group and was downed in Lebanon's waters.

Last week, thee UAVs belonging to Hezbollah were downed as they neared Israel's Karish gas rig.
