According to numerous polls, Obama's critical Jewish margin is on a downward slide, even losing major ground since the 2008 election among Jewish voters in Florida, a key battleground state.
This phenomenon is evidently repeating itself in other swing states, creating not only a problem of potential loss of critical electoral votes, but more significantly at this stage of the game, affecting the level of fundraising needed to finance Obama's re-election bid.
The Democratic Party and its head, President Obama, are unable to match the level of successful fundraising by the Romney campaign. The visibly panicky Obama campaign managers have joined forces with liberal forces such as the New York Times, the National Jewish Democratic Council and other political left organizations to delegitimize donations by conservative Jews backing Mitt Romney for President, claiming that the money being donated is tainted; in other words; "dirty Jewish money".
The 2012 Presidential race is evolving into a fundraising contest, where the financial resources of the two major candidates and their support groups may be much more in balance than was the case in 2008. This is very upsetting to the Democratic Party and their leftist supporters. They like their party to have more resources than the Republican side, and they particularly do not like big spending by very rich Republican Jews or Jewish-owned corporations for conservative candidates.
Spending by wealthy Democratic Jews and by unions who support a leftist agenda seems to bother them far less, if at all. This obsession of liberal Jewish organizations with big-money checks by Jewish conservatives backing Mitt Romney has, in their collective minds, meant that Jewish owned corporations, and their super-rich Jewish executives, might be able to swing the election this year for the Republicans.
In terms of campaign contributions, two major targets by the Jewish Liberal organizations have been the Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelson.
The Koch brothers are relatively unknown, and most Americans, Jews and non-Jews have no clue as to who they are, despite the obsessive coverage of them in recent weeks.
Adelson is a different story. He has not been shy about whom he is supporting (first Gingrich, now Romney) and about how much money he is prepared to spend. Adelson's business is gaming and hotels, and he is also an ardent conservative supporter of Israel and has publicly voiced his skepticism of the so-called "two-state solution", the mantra of Jewish liberals and leftist organizations.
All of this has made Adelson an open target for his Jewish liberal enemies. He is spending tens of millions to defeat the candidate of the left. He is a supporter of Israel. He is in the gambling business, which makes for easy targeting by the Jewish left who are busy supporting "occupy" and other social protest movements.
The Jewish liberal left seems to fear that Adelson could help elect a president who will be a true supporter of Israel and genuinely friendlier to Israel than Obama has been.
Even Professor Alan Dershowitz, a lifelong Democrat, who is on a totally different page politically from Adelson on many issues, has lashed out at the National Jewish Democratic Council for the smear of Adelson: "I know Sheldon Adelson and I have worked with him on several matters relating to Israel and the Jewish community. I have spoken on behalf of the wonderful school he has built in Las Vegas. And have had the pleasure of teaching one of the brilliant graduates of that school.
"Adelson was deeply involved in the creation of the Birthright Israel Program, which has had extraordinary success in exposing young Jews to Israel. It's hard to find anyone who has done as much for the Jewish community as Sheldon Adelson.
"Adelson grew up in Boston in near poverty and is a shining example of the American dream. He is a self-made multi-billionaire who has contributed significantly to the world of modern technology and to the economic growth of Las Vegas and other areas. His generosity has helped repair the world..... I'm sure that if the Democrats were to apply David Harris'(head of the National Jewish Democratic Council) "Adelson test" to all the contributions they have received from Hollywood stars and moguls and other wealthy business people, they wouldn't like the results."
The attacks on Adelson and similar attacks on the Koch brothers from the New York Times and the National Jewish Democratic Council are hard evidence that there is only one real test of decency for the Jewish liberal left this year -- whether you support Obama or not. As far as they are concerned, it is regarded as un-American in the eyes of the Jewish liberal left to give big money to the Republicans and any effort that helps damage the prospects of a Romney candidacy including feeding vile anti-Semitic venom into the campaign is "kosher".
Furthermore, any Jew daring to do so will be accused of donating tainted "dirty Jewish money". Obama has over the past four years managed to anger many Jewish voters whose votes he now seeks, as well as quite a few Jewish donors whose wallets he now pursues.
Implementing a strategy of delegitimizing American Jews who support conservative candidates is a sure way to lose support among all Americans.
