Israel is the twelfth happiest country in the world, down one spot from last year, according to this year's World Happiness Report, a project sponsored by the U.N.

The report named Finland as the planet's happiest nation, with Denmark in second, followed by Switzerland, Iceland and the Netherlands. The only non-European country in the top 10 spot was New Zealand.

The poll, which is conducted annually by Gallup, ranked 149 country, asking citizens to answer questions about their personal happiness.

Six factors supporting happiness were examined. These were: income, health, someone to count on, freedom, generosity, and trust.

The country found to be the most unhappy in the world was Afghanistan. Nearly as unhappy were Lesotho, Botswana, Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

The United States ranked 19th.
