Former Shabak (Israel Security Agency) head Yoram Cohen on Monday spoke to 103 FM Radio regarding the prospect of applying Israeli sovereignty to the Jordan Valley and Jewish towns in Judea and Samaria.

According to Cohen, Israel should do everything possible to refrain from a one-state solution, but a two-state solution is not a good option, either.

"In my opinion, the government would do well to set goals in the Palestinian story," he said. "First of all, we need to understand where we don't want to end up."

He added that Israel "cannot harm the settlements, and must not take any steps which will lead to something irreversible."

On sovereignty itself, he said: "This is a dramatic process which may disrupt the relatively good security situation in Judea and Samaria, and disrupt the existing peace agreements and those which are in the process of being made with the Gulf states."

"Is it worth it to the State of Israel to hold onto sovereignty? And for what? Ideological background? If you blow up the Palestinians' dream of something resembling a country, no Palestinian leader will be able to digest that. The chance of violence is high."

On the other hand, demolishing terrorists' homes "helps and is very useful, even if at times it doesn't look good," and also serves as an effective deterrent.
