Facebook Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday criticized US President Donald Trump’s threats against social media companies.
Speaking to Fox News in an interview which will air in full on Thursday, Zuckerberg said that censoring a platform would not be the "right reflex" for a government worried about censorship.
"I'll have to understand what they actually would intend to do, but in general I think a government choosing to censor a platform because they're worried about censorship doesn't exactly strike me as the right reflex there," said the Facebook founder.
Zuckerberg’s comments follow Trump’s threat to shut down social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
That threat came after Twitter attached a warning to some of Trump’s tweets, prompting readers to fact-check the president’s claims.
The social network’s move was made in response to two Trump tweets which claimed that mail-in ballots are fraudulent.
On Wednesday, White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany said Trump will sign an executive order shortly regarding social media companies.
