One person was killed and at least one other seriously wounded in a shooting attack in downtown Vienna, at the famous Figlmüller restaurant.

A journalist from Lithuania who witnessed the attack said that he saw two people lying on the ground and a third man who was talking to one of the people on the ground.

"They were speaking some Slavic language," he said.

The man said that "about 10" shots were fired. He did not see the shooter but that based on the casings he saw on the ground, he deduced that the weapon used was a pistol.

The background for the attack is not known but police said they do not believe that the incident is terror related.
