Jason Greenblatt, the US Special Representative for International Negotiations, on Sunday condemned the shooting attack at the Ofra junction, in which seven Israelis were wounded, including a 21-year-old pregnant woman who suffered serious injuries.
“Absolutely Disgusting – Terrorists attack a group of Israelis celebrating Hanukkah. My prayers and thoughts are with the victims and their families. President Abbas, will you condemn the act this time??” he wrote.
Earlier on Sunday, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley called on the Palestinian Authority (PA) to stop its payments to terrorists.
“These payments need to stop,” she tweeted, in response to Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon who pointed out that once the terrorist is caught, the PA will pay the terrorist a monthly salary as it does with other terrorists as well.
Despite repeated calls from both Israel and the United States to stop the practice of paying terrorists, PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas has continuously stressed that “families of the martyrs will continue to receive their allowances in full."
In a recent speech, Abbas called the PA's continued payments to terrorists a "red line" that would not be halted under any circumstances.
