The Syrian community in New York's Chief Rabbi Shaul Katzin passed away at the age of 97.
Rabbi Katzin served for 24 years as rabbi of the Halabi community in New York and was the last remnant of the generations of the Sages of Aleppo (Halab).
Due to his age, he rarely left his home during the past year. In the past few months he became ill and was hospitalized. During the Sabbath he passed away, leaving a grieving family.
The Rabbi left four sons and three daughters. The funeral procession will take place in New York and tomorrow (Monday) his coffin will be flown to Israel and another funeral will be held in Jerusalem with participation of rabbis and public figures.
