A haredi Company Commander in the Givati Brigade may soon be appointed for the first time. In coming weeks, a new company commander is expected to be appointed in the Rotem Battalion of the Givati Brigade. According to a report on haredi radio station Kol Barama, the appointment will be selected from among the haredi candidates for the assignment.
Several haredi officers who are themselves company graduates are currently eligible to assume the post.
The decision is ultimately up to Brigade Commander Colonel Dudu Bar-Kalifa. According to the report, the IDF estimates it will appoint a haredi officer for the message it will send haredi recruits about possibilities in their military future.
If a haredi officer is appointed to be a Givati commander, it will be an historic move in the brigade. With this, the haredi Netzah Yehuda Battalion already had one haredi company commander.
"If the appointment is carried out, this is a significant achievement for the IDF and for the Shachar organization that tries to provide soldiers with maximum religious needs, as well as Torah lessons and activities in the spirit of Jewish tradition," brigade officials explained.
