"The Haggadah is a magnificent literary work of art. There have probably been more editions and commentaries on the Haggadah than of any other book Out of Israel, they need two nights to really understand it, but they still miss the meaning of the last sentence: Next year in Jerusalem.

"Why a second cup of wine? We don't have a mitzva to do that on the Sabbath.

" Why call them questions when the Hebrew word 'ma' signals an exclamation, not a question?

To find out, listen to Rabbi Gold and before reaching the lecture itself, enjoy his comments on life in general, two of which are below:

-How could anyone say the Jews of Europe went like "sheep to the slaughter," inferring that they could have acted differently? France fell in five weeks. It is the mighty armies of Europe who gave in to the Nazis. How then, could Jews without an army or even a gun, stand up to the Nazis? The expression is taken out of context from King David's lament in the Book of Psalms:"Because of You, we were murdered and considered sheep taken to slaughter."

-Did you know the most telling expression of what is happening in the Middle East? Pelicans have changed their route south because of the danger in flying over Turkey and Syria. Instead, tens of thousands are flying over Israel and eating up the fish industry of the Jezreel Valley. But don't worry - Israel is creating technology to deal with the pelican fish lovers without hurting them.

Rabbi Shalom Gold is a household name to Anglos in Israel. His love of and devotion to Eretz Yisrael has accompanied him throughout his entire life.

Since making aliya in 1982, he has built and served as the Rav of Kehilat Zichron Yoseph in Har Nof, and in 1984 founded the Avrom Silver Jerusalem College for Adults, which merged with the Israel Center in 2002, where Rabbi Gold, as Dean, is teaching Torah today.

For the past decades, Rabbi Gold has been at the forefront of the struggle for Eretz Yisrael. He was one of the founders of the Ichud Harabanim L’maan Eretz Yisrael V’am Yisrael , under the guidance of the Chief Rabbis Avraham Shapira z”l and Mordechai Eliyahu z”l.

His shiurim have been an inspiration to many, including the countless families whose decision to make aliya was a result of listening to “Rabbi Gold’s Tapes.”
