A Russian military transport plane crashed in Syria Tuesday, killing all 32 people aboard, Russian media reported.
The Russian An-26 transport aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Russia's Hmeimim airbase in Syria. The plane was carrying 26 passengers and six crew members.
"The reason for the crash according to preliminary information could have been a technical fault," Russia's Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The plane crashed approximately 500 meters (1,600 feet) from the runway and did not come under enemy fire, according to the Russian military.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
