Minister Zeev Elkin (Likud) addressed Thursday morning in an interview with Arutz Sheva reports that the prime minister is delaying the enactment of the bill over sovereignty in Judea and Samaria.
"It's clear that I intend to support the law with full force. I'm glad that the members translated the decision of the Likud Central Committee into legislation. I do not know if we will win the battle as early as Sunday, but in such struggles someone who shows determination achieves the desired result. I hope we will achieve a revolution on the issue of sovereignty,” Elkin said.
He is aware, however, that the journey will be long.
"I assume there will be delays of some nature. There were many delays in bills [of a national nature] regarding which, in the end, we convinced the Prime Minister to convince the Americans. He has very strong abilities of persuasion, and this is a critical issue for the State of Israel."
Elkin adds that alongside the importance of approving the bill, it is also very important to act to influence public opinion.
"I have been talking for years about the need to advance the issue of sovereignty and not to reject it. I think that the very discourse on the bill, even if it does not pass immediately, is what creates change, because in the end there needs to be a broad consensus among the people. If at one point when I talked about sovereignty it sounded delusional, today it has already penetrated to the core of the Likud movement, and this is a good thing. "
