'In a Jewish state's Jewish army, Jewish law must be respected'

The Colonel believes that the IDF can not force a religious fighter to serve with a female fighter in a mixed combat unit..

"It's irrelevant," Gat said. "The people's army has to take every sector into account, and certainly when it comes to a Jewish army that serves the Jewish state, Jewish law is something that must be taken into account."

"These [religious Zionist] soldiers volunteer to be in the top units of the Israeli army; in Golani, Paratroopers, pilots, navy.

"Every corps of the IDF is full of people from the religious sector, and I think that to honor a request not to serve with women in the same unit is legitimate."
