Police operating in the capital overnight arrested an Arab resident of Jerusalem after they found an automatic weapon and a stash of drugs in the suspect’s residence.

According to a police spokesperson, the 21-year-old suspect was taken into custody during a joint operation in the predominantly Arab neighborhood of Shuafat in northern Jerusalem.

The operation included undercover officers and members of the Yassam special patrol units.

During searches in Shuafat, officers found a Carl Gustav-style sub-machine gun, a drug stash, and cash in the suspect’s residence.

Police seized the weapon, drugs, and cash, and took the suspect into custody.

“Operations will continue in order to prevent terrorist attacks and criminal activity in and around the Jerusalem area,” a police spokesperson said following the operation.
