The Israeli television show “Paula and Leon” caused a stir this morning, Tuesday, after it promised to grant concert tickets to anyone who reveals that they had been sexually harassed.
A message on the screen read: “Go into our Facebook page and write us about whether you, too, have been sexually harassed - and you will be eligible for a couple’s ticket to a concert hosted by Yirmi Kaplan and Chemi Rodner.”
Later, a note of “clarification” was posted on the show’s Facebook page.
“To all those journalists celebrating the writing mistake on the program. Clarification: Of course we do not distribute prizes for sexual harassment. In my opinion, our show deals more than any other with bringing awareness to important topics like equality, accepting others, and feminism. Voices not heard in other places: women, disabled, people recovering from challenging life events. Every day, we bring to the studio powerful stories of people who fell victim and pulled through, and want to inspire. And besides, every day we hand out concert tickets to our Facebook friends.”
The Keshet network, which airs the show, said in response: “[The message was the result of] a technical malfunction whereby two unrelated slides were connected to each other. It will be emphasized again that the prize is unrelated in any way, shape or form to this. The presenters apologized and the malfunction was already fixed during the broadcast.”
