Knesset Members from across the political spectrum reacted to Tuesday morning's terrorist attack in Har Adar that killed a Border Policeman and two security guards, blaming Palestinian incitement and calling to restrict the work permits given to Palestinian Arab laborers.
"I would like to send condolences to the families of those who were murdered and to wish a speedy recovery to the wounded," said Coalition Chairman MK David Bitan (Likud).
Bitan said that the fact that the terrorist possessed a work permit enabling him to enter pre-1967 Israel showed that the policy needed to be reexamined. "We need to stop Palestinians from entering Israel immediately," declared Bitan. "The Palestinians are exploiting our goodwill to commit attacks."
"We need to reevaluate the policy of entry permits into Israel and to understand that there is no point in negotiating with those who want to destroy us."
Internal Security Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) concurred, telling reporters that "we need to examine the issue of work permits, but we do not have to jump to conclusions."
Minister Yoav Galant (Kulanu) disagreed, saying that Israel needed to make a distinction between terrorists and ordinary Palestinians and to only deal harshly with terrorists and their families. "We must remember that the Palestinians welfare is an Israeli interest and that the laborers must be allowed to earn a living," he said.
Minister of Agriculture Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) called to adopt his National Union factions 'Victory Plan' that would bolster Arab emigration from Israel, and ultimately end the Palestinian Authority. "Besides [fighting terror] using military and security operations, it is also important to act by expanding settlements in Judea and Samaria," he said.
Deputy Knesset Speaker MK Nava Boker (Likud) called for authorities to refrain from burying the terrorist's body and to take action against his family. "It is our moral duty to destroy the terrorist's home and expel his family," said Boker. "This way families will stop their children from committing massacres."
The heads of the Knesset's Land of Israel Lobby, MK Yoav Kish (Likud) and MK Bezalel Smotrich, said that "the murderous attack on Har Adar is the Palestinian reception for President Trump's emissaries," and called to "make it clear to the murderers and the negotiators that this is our land, that we will not compromise on it and we will not withdraw. "
Opposition leader MK Isaac Herzog (Zionist Union) said that "this is a very difficult and sad morning in the wake of this brutal attack."
