MK Hanin Zoabi (Joint Arab List) believes that the success of the recent struggle against Israel's security measures at the entrance to the Al-Aqsa Mosque should be exploited in order to raise new demands.

Exploiting the success should include, according to Zoabi, opposition to the presence of the "occupation police" on the plaza of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, opposition to dividing the use of the Temple Mount for worship by Jews on the basis of time, and opposition to preventing any Palestinian from entering the Temple Mount.

"The lesson is that we believe in the power of the people when they come out united to the street, and this lesson comes to us internally (ie. to the Arabs of Israel)," Zoabi said in an interview with Hamas newspaper Falasteen.

"Despite the measures taken by the Occupation, the steadfastness and sacrifice of Jerusalem's residents will not cease and will continue to be expressed in independent actions or in a popular struggle as it was recently," she said.

Zoabi clarified: "We [the Arab MKs] are not showing solidarity with the struggle of Al-Quds, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, but we are a part of the Palestinian people in those areas."

Zoabi rejected Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's proposal to perform a territorial exchange within the framework of a final status agreement that would include Israeli annexation of Gush Etzion in return for the transfer of the Wadi Ara area to the future State of Palestine. She noted that this proposal was intended to sow panic and was not intended for practical implementation because Israel was aware that no Palestinian entity would agree to "ethnic cleansing" aimed at disposing of a quarter of the Arab population.
