Within the context of the medical condition of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, right-wing activist Baruch Marzel on Wednesday called on the parole board to release Olmert from prison.

“With all my happiness over the fact that Olmert left the [political] stage and despite the anger and [his] betrayal of the Land of Israel and the acts of corruption, after he has now sat in jail, and I don’t know if he is sick or not - I think he needs to go home,” Marzel told Arutz Sheva.

He said that the cruelty of the prosecution which opposes release of Olmert is “un-Jewish.”

“I don’t believe that it’s possible to be Jewish and so cruel. We also saw what they did to former President Katzav, of whom I am certainly not a big fan due to his support for the expulsion from Gush Katif - but also with respect to him they behaved cruelly - not like Jews need to behave.”

Marzel asserted that there’s no reason to continue to hurt leaders who sat in jail and paid their price to society.

“I didn’t like Olmert politically and publicly, he will go home and won’t return to public affairs because he is indeed corrupt financially and in the public sphere. But the cruelty of Shai Nitzan and his friends in the prosecution is uncalled for. It is inhumane and un-Jewish.”
