16 haredi extremists were arrested on Friday during a police-initiated operation in which a policeman dressed up as an IDF soldier.

The policeman was attacked while walking down the street, as haredim hit him and threw objects at him.

Israel Police and Border Police officers noticed the attack and identified the attackers, arriving in time to arrest the suspects as they attacked the "soldier."

While the officers arrested the violent suspects, other haredim began to shout and throw stones at the police officers. Police dispersed the rioters.

Three policemen were lightly injured during the clashes.

Two days ago, seven haredim were arrested on suspicion of attacking soldiers in uniform.

"This activity is one of several planned and initiated operations, both hidden and obvious, in Jerusalem and its environs. Israel Police carries out these operations in order to prevent any injuries to those in uniform," a police spokesman said.
