Police investigators are planning to question Shas chairman and Interior Minister Aryeh Deri under caution in the coming days, Channel 10 reported Thursday night.
Deri, who is reportedly under investigation for tax code violations, is likely to be brought for questioning by the special Lahav 433 anti-corruption unit of the Israeli police department.
Senior law enforcement officials told Channel 10 that the Lahav 433 investigation is likely to determine whether to seek an indictment against Deri in the coming weeks.
The investigation is reportedly tied to Deri’s real estate ventures, some of which were conducted in conjunction with his brother, attorney Shlomo Deri. Police are examining the possibility that the Interior Minister failed to report large sums of money received in connection with these real estate deals to tax authorities.
Last year, police opened an investigation into possible tax code violations stemming from Deri’s real estate purchases.
In 1999, Deri was convicted on corruption, fraud, and breach of trust charges. After serving his three-year sentence in 2002, Deri returned to the Knesset in 2013.
