An Arab resident of Jericho was caught driving at an excessive speed near the settlement of Pazael on Route 90 in the Jordan Valley.
The man drove at a speed of 111 mph on a section of road with a speed limit of 50 mph.
During the arrest attempt, the driver made a dangerous pass over a white line. He then explained to the police that he was rushing to attend a funeral. His vehicle was impounded and his license was revoked for thirty days.
The police said that "in a reality in which almost every day people are injured in road accidents, lawbreakers continue to consciously speed at the risk of their lives and the lives of other travelers.
"The Israel Police will continue its enforcement and targeted activity against lawbreakers on the road, to act against life-threatening offenses, and continue to act to change the driving culture," the police promised.
