Border Police officers who carried out a terror arrest operation in Shuafat, in northeastern Jerusalem, were approached by a Palestinian Arab vehicle which tried to run them over, the Jerusalem Police said Sunday night.
The officers called on the vehicle to stop and, when it refused to do so, opened fire at the vehicle. As a result, one suspect was killed. A second suspect was moderately wounded.
There were no casualties among the Israeli troops.
Just last week, a 17-year-old Palestinian Arab teenager was arrested at the Shuafat checkpoint when a knife concealed in a bag was discovered among his belongings.
Border Police officers arrived at the scene, disarmed the suspect and seized the knife.
The detainee, a resident of Shuafat, was transferred for further investigation.
