A media gag order on the identity of the soldier who is currently on trial for shooting a wounded Arab terrorist in Hevron last month was lifted on Monday.

It is now permissible to announce that the soldier is Elor Azariya, a 20-year-old resident of Ramle.

Just shortly earlier on Monday, Azariya was indicted by the military prosecutor on charges of manslaughter. His case was thrown in the spotlight after video of him shooting the terrorist was filmed and published by an Arab activist of the radical leftist NGO B'Tselem, causing international condemnation and criticism from Israel's leadership.

Azariya has testified he shot over concerns that the terrorist - who minutes earlier with an accomplice stabbed and wounded a soldier - was moving to detonate a hidden bomb belt.

Other soldiers at the scene, a Magen David Adom (MDA) investigative committee and a CID officer have all confirmed that concerns of a bomb belt had not been ruled out.

A massive rally in support of the soldier is planned for Tuesday at Tel Aviv's iconic Rabin Square, and Azariya's concerned family is organizing the event.

Top Israeli music stars had agreed to take part in the rally, but within a day singers Eyal Golan and David D'Or had backtracked, caving in to leftist pressure. Rap star Kobi Shimoni, better known by his stage name Subliminal, is still set to attend, as is former MK and media personality Sharon Gal.
