Bearded ladies are not an uncommon spectacle in your local circus, but they usually have not been standard fare as fugitives in massive police manhunts - until now.

San Diego police on late Thursday night were embroiled in an all out search to try and locate an obese woman, who weighs around 400 pounds (over 180 kilograms), and sports a fashionable beard.

She is suspected of stabbing a man on Wednesday night at 7:40 p.m. local time, in the city's East Village neighborhood.

Police spokesperson Robert Heims told Fox 5 San Diego about the attack that launched the bearded lady into criminal infamy.

The victim, a 39-year-old whose identity has not been published, approached a group of people asking for a cigarette.

But lung cancer was not the only danger awaiting the unsuspecting man - at that moment, the obese bearded woman tottered up to him and told him to get away from her things, a facet of the case apparently indicating that she is homeless.

Then without warning, she stabbed the man on the left side of his neck, before fleeing the scene as fast as a 400-pound person humanly can.

The stunned victim was evacuated to a local hospital and given medical treatment for his non-life-threatening wounds.

Police describe the attacker they are searching for as a white woman around 400 pounds in weight, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. The officers then took the pains to incredulously note she is "with a beard."
