Samaria Regional Council Head Gershon Mesika denies a report Thursday on Channel 10, about contacts between him and the State Attorney's Office regarding a plea bargain, in the case known as the “Yisrael Beytenu corruption case.”

According to the report, the deal being worked out would have Mesika resign from his post as Samaria Regional Council Head. In exchange, the charges that may be filed against him in the future would be meaningfully reduced.

The State Attorney's Office reportedly wants Mesika to turn into a witness for the prosecution in the trials that the large-scale corruption investigation has engendered.

Mesika was questioned by police over suspicions of giving bribes and receiving things unlawfully, in his role as Chairman of the Company for Development of Samaria.

His attorneys said in response that “regrettably, the media has been covering the subject, time after time, in a biased and false way, and with disinformation that causes grave damage to Mr. Mesika."

"Gershon Mesika denies the suspicions against him, continues to operate for residents of Samaria, and publications like this only make him more determined," they added.
