Looking for a job? If you're a programmer or computer science grad, there are plenty of jobs for you in Israel, said Meir Brand, head of Google's Israel office.
“I can tell you that there is a worldwide shortage of qualified people in these areas, and Israel is feeling this as well,” Brand told an audience at Haifa University, at an event sponsored by the Israel Lottery.
The Lottery raises money for education, and Brand's message for listeners was that the government needed to do more to train workers for the technology jobs of tomorrow.
“I believe that students should study what makes them happy, but there are several occupations that require a lot of people. Israel can train workers in these areas and export them to the world.”
Uzi Dayan, chairman of the Lottery, said that the organization was considering setting up a scholarship program specifically for students in computer science. “The scholarships would be given out to students who choose to study in disciplines where there is a large demand for workers.”
“There is a lot more to know today than in the past,” said Brand. “It is important for students to learn how to use the tools available. Teachers must know how to use these technology tools as well. Technology is the means by which people advance today.”
