Israel and Moldavia signed a tourism agreement last week. The agreement was signed by Tourism Minister Uzi Landau, who signed the deal when he led a delegation to the central European country last week.

Together with officials of the Economic Ministry, the Finance Ministry, Agriculture Ministry, and Foreign Ministry, Landau met with top officials and leaders in the country.

The travel deal is the fourth agreement signed between Israel and Moldavia.

The agreements' purposes are to expand trade, tourism, and technology cooperation between the two countries, Landau's office said.

In the context of Operation Protective Edge and the expected reduction in tourism from Western Europe and the US, Landau said that Israel was increasing its efforts in several Eastern and Central European countries, in order to encourage more visitors from those countries to come to Israel.

“I see this visit to Moldavia as a very important one,” said Landau. “Moldavia is a full member of the United Nations, and is an appropriate partner for Israel in cooperative efforts on travel and tourism, as well as other areas.”
