Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi David Lau on Sunday visited IDF soldiers in the hospital who were injured during action in Gaza over the weekend. Rabbi Lau visited several dozen soldiers hospitalized in Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon.

Rabbi Lau met with the soldiers, giving them words of encouragement and praising their self-sacrifice. He also met with their families and discussed with them halachic questions on how to wear tefillin during their active duty in Gaza, and what to do about wearing them if they were injured. He wished the soldiers well and gave them his blessing that they recover and return home quickly.

'This is the beauty of our nation,” said Rabbi Lau. “I saw dedicated doctors, dear parents, and dedicated sons, soldiers and fighters who only wish to defend their homes from the murderous terror which does not stop for a moment.”

As the Rabbi was visiting the hospital the Color Red warning siren sounded, indicating that a missile attack was imminent. The Rabbi, along with staff and families, entered a protected area, and called on those with him to pray for the health of the hospitalized soldiers.
