Ever wonder what American music star Jason Derulo would sound like in Yiddish?
No? Neither had we - but apparently Hassidic comedian Mendy Pellin had.
"Talk Yiddish To Me (Nisht Dirty Parody)" features Hassidic Jews rapping in Yiddish and English to the tune of Derulo's (rather different) song "Talk Dirty".
Arutz Sheva caught up with Mendy Pellin to find out about the messages of "Jewish pride" which underline the humorous mash-up, rich with heimische nuances and Yiddish references - and performed by a genuine Satmar hassid!
It all began with one tweet, says Pellin:
"I heard the Jason Derulo song for the first time while I was in Vegas filming a video with Avicii. Right when I heard the Jewish flavor to the song, I thought of a great tweet.
"A little after that I said, no this should be more than a tweet.
"Originally he did the rap part but I wanted an authentic Satmar feel to the yiddish - so I asked the guy that helped us write the yiddish lyrics to go into the studio booth and put down a track... He said he never did anything like this before and doesn't rap - but he went in there and I loved his blend of authentic R&B together with authentic B&H!
"We filmed this for Jewbellish - which is an awesome humor lifestyle brand started by myself and fashion king Jeff Rudes, Founder & CEO of J Brand Jeans. We created this free APP where people can test to see how Jewish they are. This video is a great lead-up to the release of the new version which will allow users to turn their face into a chasidishe guy with streimel/beard or girl with tichel and all."
"I'm thinking about it."
There's some real gold in there - what's your favorite?
"That's so awesome, because in the R&B world they brag about their Bentley, etc., and the gold rims...
