British Prime Minister David Cameron will speak before the Knesset next week during a visit planned for last month but postponed due to floods in England, AFP reported.
"British Prime Minister David Cameron is scheduled to address the Knesset plenum next Wednesday, March 12," the Knesset said in a statement quoted by the news agency, without giving further details of the trip.
The British government has yet to confirm the visit.
Cameron had been scheduled to visit Israel and the Palestinian Authority on February 18 and 19 but stayed at home to deal with the devastating floods.
It will be Cameron's first visit to Israel since he was elected in 2010, although the Conservative leader did visit while he was in opposition.
Reports of Cameron’s visit first appeared in early January, when it was also reported that German Chancellor Angela Merkel would visit Israel as well, part of an international push for Israel to sign a peace agreement with the PA.
Prior to Cameron’s first scheduled visit, it was reported that he had accepted the invitation of Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein to address the Knesset during his visit.
Edelstein welcomed Cameron’s visit on Tuesday, saying, “I believe the visit will contribute to the friendship between Britain and Israel and to the relations between the two countries. Of course, we will do everything to ensure that our guest is received in the Knesset in the most respectful way.”
Edelstein added, “I am also pleased that the Knesset is taking its place as the main stage chosen by world leaders to address the people of Israel."
