The IDF has decided to change its system of guarding Jewish communities against terrorist attack, following a long period of staff-level planning work. The new approach will be implemented in the northern and southern borders, and along the border with Gaza.

The present system, which depends on soldiers on the ground at the communities, will remain in place in Judea and Samaria – due to “security considerations and situation assessments.”

A senior IDF officer told Arutz Sheva Tuesday that the new method of defense will rely on state-of-the-art systems and will be fitted to real-time situation assessments and the new security reality that the IDF is familiar with.

The present system was based on placing soldiers at the sentry position at the gate to a community, and on a local rapid response force in every community requiring guarding.

"The IDF thinks that at this time, there is no longer a need for this system and defense needs to be fitted to reality on the ground on the northern border, along the Gaza strip and on the southern border," the officer said. The new defense system will be put in place in the coming days.
