Israeli negotiators headed by Justice Minister Tzipi Livni and Palestinian Authority (PA) negotiators headed by Saeb Erekat will meet Tuesday for the sixth session of “peace talks” under US mediation. The meeting is the first negotiation session that is being held in an area under Israeli sovereignty.
It is not known whether US mediator Martin Indyk will be present at the session or whether the US will be represented by someone else.
The sides are maintaining complete secrecy regarding the content of the talks. PA head Mahmoud Abbas has said that the talks have not yet begun to deal with the issues and disputes that are at the core of the conflict between Israel and the PA, and that they are still in the exploratory phase. American sources have called the talks “serious.” Other sources said from the start of the negotiations that all issues are on the table.
Following the holiday, Israel is scheduled to release a second group of terrorist murderers from its jails, after releasing 26 terrorists at the start of the negotiations.
In all, 104 terrorists are set to be released in four waves, over the course of nine months of talks.
